Types of Child Care

Child Care Centers

Your child receives care in a setting designed for groups of children.  Child care centers are licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services or the Ohio Department of Education.

Family Child Care Homes

  • Licensed Type B Homes:  Your child is cared for in the home of a family child care provider who has met state minimum health and safety licensing requirements. Licensed Type B homes may only care for six or less children.
  • Licensed Type A Homes:  Your child is cared for in the home of a family child care provider who has met state minimum health and safety licensing requirements. Licensed Type A homes may only care for twelve or less children.

Step Up To Quality

Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) is a five-star quality rating and improvement system administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. SUTQ recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality program standards that exceed licensing health and safety regulations. The program standards are based on national research identifying standards which lead to improved outcomes for children.
